im not ashamed. my grandfather used to write potry in syleti.

the 'shuddho' bangla has been rammed down all our throats, which i think has been detrimental for our communities who speak cholti bangla, and have done for ages. but that may have been the intention.

observing the questions and comments on this forum and in the 'mainstream' identity debate; they seem to be engineered to 'put down' or 'depress'

people who know, say that the standard of bangla literature eminating from our land is inferior to those acress the border (bangladesher boi porte shanti nai)

for people in desh, despite the whole political thing, 'clean' brahmin brit developed bangla is hard to master!

i fear that this discomfort results in an uncreative, follow the leader, caged in mentality.

language shapes your confidence, capacity, your dreams and your world view, so isnt comfort of absolute necesssity?

there are historical, political and social reasons for our languages being the way they are.

listen though, if it wasnt language, it would be haircuts, footware, living conditions, occupational or some other difference, simply because we love putting eachother down because of who we are.

sylettis arent ashamed, rather others with their own superiority/inferiority complexes have asserted this 'shuddho' strongman and in doing so have marginalised the majority dialect in the uk.

sylheti bangla = shuddo bangla for lazy people who cant be bothered to read or write....

remember, the education system is a lot less developed over there...

all your taught over there is your abcd's and then you are either expected to go off and learn by yourself, pay a lil money and do more education...!

This is the first time I am hearing such thing. I have Sylheti friends and I don't see any one of them to be ashamed of his Bhasha. The topic is so silly!
