in a summit last week the canadian government pledged a 2.5 billion pounds program to help the native candians out of poverty. Historicly the 'indians' and inuits have been badly treated by the candian governments even while being restricted to their reserves.

the canadian government has also agreed to begin paying out to indian sufers of child abuse at maily chirstian schools.

on the face of it it seems like a the canadians are finaly facing up to the indian issue but im not so sure. I mean is 2.5billion all that much? i mean surly the candians are spending more on the war in Iraq?

Also there will be new governmtn in canada by next year who will be under no obligation to go through with the agreement. I find it a tad worrying.

But surly even the conservative canaidns will realise their obligation to the indians?
