'BANGLA MEETS BLOOMSBURY'

2006 sees the culmination of the UCLU Bangla Society’s growth and development with the major production, ‘Bangla Meets Bloomsbury’. Taking place on Saturday February 18th, it promises to be the largest event of its kind in the U.K. To commemorate Bangla Language Day it will showcase the cultural breadth of Bengal and how this has been translated here in Britain. Performers range from traditional dancers, singers and poets through to contemporary violinists, break dancers and rappers. Building upon these cultural foundations, ‘Bangla Meets Bloomsbury’ is set to challenge, as well as entertain. Standing apart from other productions, the UCLU Bangla society will delve deeper into the issues that face Asians in Britain today. Imran Khan, the U.K’s leading human rights lawyer will outline the ways in which young people can become more positively involved in current affairs. Furthermore, Suresh Grover and Imtiaz Amin will highlight the imminent release of the enquiry in to the death of Zahid Mubarek at Feltham Young Offenders Institution.

The show will be followed with an afterparty with guest DJs spinning everything from RnB and Hip Hop, to Bhangra and Bollywood. The UCLU Bangla society’s passion for perfection has created a production like no other; ‘Bangla Meets Bloomsbury’ is set to be engaging, stimulating and one of a kind.
