Six killed in Indian caste violence

Six low-caste Hindus - three women and three children - have been shot dead as they slept in a village in the eastern Indian state of Bihar.
Police said their village, 30 km south-east of Patna, was raided by a gang of men in a continuation of caste-related violence in the area.

The local police chief said the gang were believed to be members of the same illegal left-wing group blamed for the deaths of six other low-caste Hindus in the same area earlier this month.

Inter-gang, caste-based violence - often over land - is common in Bihar, one of the most lawless states in India.
