well belive it or not there is not "much" of discrimination
hapenning here again its the media who is blowing up things
to get a new and hot story to stir up things well if ur media was any where as compettitive and secular they would have definately said something about the treatement of
hindus in a muslim areas

lets put it this way both religions are as good or as bad
because both have done some wrong things

"u said Just because some one does bad does not mean you also do bad, this concept is wrong"
well agree with u but u cant sit down doing nothingwhen u see wrong things hapenning christians are doing something wrong they dont deserve death but something they will remember the west will never try to rationalise coz they are christians majourity let any hindu try doing what the christians are doing in india well i am sure we will be treated even worse

again i am not saying go and kill a person there are other ways killing creat a great impact well u cant blame hindus only well if u go down in history muslim rulers were no saints either espically on conversion killing and forced conversion rape i am sure u will agree with me who knows ur ancestors were hindus who were converted well so much for that

well as for babri masjid that i have my strong viewes
1000 muslims killed ok i feel bad for them the mosques shouldent have been broken but muslims have "no right"
to say they were cheated and feel hurt they should know
and u as a muslim should know that the islamic invaders
broke 10000nds of temples our temples were converted in to mosques the rich clothings and jewels which were our gods ornaments were stolen or rather robbed buy these muslim invaders well what hindus did isnt justifyed but u cant blame them u feel hurt when ur mosque is broken what about "us" or because we are kafirs for u so our sentements dont matter where are god was born u want to build a mosque
well could u let us build a temple in mecca
again i condem the killing but i dont blame the hindus for braking the mosque

and trust me on this one muslims are safe in india sure being a minority they would feel insecure but they are treated equal unlike our islamic states
and as for the conversion thing all the converts are daliths and the low cast i am not discriminating them just
telling the kind of ppl who convert no self recepting hindu would convert to islam after knowing freedom espically women still the change 0.1% coz may be they are marrying am muslim

i really felt hurt when i read some of the posts u and some of the others had written about our gods
sir i hope u know hindiusm first before saying some nasty things i probably dont blame u coz u probably have an impression of hindus after seeing hindi movies

i dont know if u will be interested but i am sure it would remove some misconceptions
and none of our gods are nude dont mix kamasutra with religion

largely what ppl do wrong is mix "religion and culture"

religion
hindus belive in one god the number of gods we have are
are the reincarnations of that one god (vishnu)incarnations are ram krishna and a lot more even today we could have an incarnation when i say this it means a person male or female who does some great work selflessly and brings good to humanity not indins not hindus but everyliving thing
last incarnation is said to be buddha well its the buddhist ego which dosent realise but vishnu dosent care now does he lol

cows well we recept them why because that the only animal
who gives us everything form milk products to food leather to its waste is also according to ayurveda we dont kill
them because we are vegetrains no other reason
the holy cow thing has just sprung up and
now every body is beliving it to be hinduism

the sad this is cast system which most of the hindus or should i say ppl who know hinduism condem

sir i can vouch for the information i am giving u
coz i have to study my religion as i am a a kshatrya
and i am not like the other hindus which means i study my holy books i am expected to study for others its not nessary well incase u are thinking i am not a pundit or a bhramin i have girl firends i do every damn thaing which a teeanagres do have the same thought if u know what i mean
lol infact my girl is a muslim
rizwana beautifil person

culture
sati is no where in our religion sati is or was only performed buy the rajputs who live in rajisthan and this was because they were a worrior tribe and if the husband dies the women would be molested by muslim invaders or an other invader so they prefer to die than to be disrecepted

kama sutra that culture not religion and there is nothing bad in it sex is a very natural thing in hinduism

here comes another one
widows there is more hype created in the movies about this widows are allowed to re marry in the manu smriti all women rights are given women are treated equal to men in hinduism or even more but its been such a culture which has been carried on that they mix the whole thing up
and as for the girlchild is concidered i am sorry to say
it has come from muslim culture earlier women were allowed to be in the same statues but because islam has hijab and hindus say that the invaders and eying thier daughters they started it in india this is culture not religion

the sad part is no religion today is what it was originally
the problem is ppl have a lot of misconceptions about hinduism they have this of a very negatively exotic religion
where as most of is basic "science" surprisingly yeah science
out vedas have more mathamatical equasions than spiritual
stuff like geomatery yoga ayurveda a lot " incasu u find any other problem i will be glad to help and clear misconceptions

i hope u will try to understand our point of view and will not attempt to say wrong things about my religion coz there are 10 more things i can add about ur religion but i dont think we want that now do we

so live and let live everybody
peace out keep living
shiva
i am happy this time this discussion isnt ebding with abuses
normaly hindu and muslim debates end this way

all, well may be not all, but definitely the one that started it is an A**h***. should be farted upon and not be tolerated. furthermore, for humers sake, should be shaved and then a bulls-eye should be drawn. in addition to that, should be treated like the way hindu fundamentalists in India treat muslims, shikhs and kashmiris in india. India should be listed as the nation violating human rights the most. joy ram.

Hindu Situation in Bangladesh

While there is a lot of debate going on in SCB on the statistics, reports and
general nature of the problem of Hindus in Bangladesh, I think it is a good
time to share with you some of my personal experience as a Bangladeshi Hindu.

My native home is in a remote village of Madaripur district. Although I
didn't live there except for about four years during 1971-74, I used to go to my
village home every one or two year. I will try to describe how a small Hindu
village of about 35 families in 1972 has lost all of its members in the last 20
years.
To begin with, do not think that all the people in our area are
Muslim fundamentalists or Hindu-haters. Actually, most of them are
peace loving, simple village people and some are very pious. For an
example, in 1971 we did not go to India as refugees like many Hindus and
Muslims. Our then Union Council Chairman in his capacity as a member of
the 'Piece Committee' played many tricks with the Pakistan Army and
Razakars to stop them from attacking the Hindu village. We were
protected by our Muslim neighbors. My father kept our gold and other
valuables with a Muslim family friend and he returned all those intact
after the war was over. So where does the problem lie ?

Shortly after the independence, a notorious person became the
most influential in our community. He, his brothers and their friends
are the ones directly responsible for what happened to our Hindus
although definitely the political and law & order situation contributed
to their deeds. Whenever that group needed some money (for election
campaign, to fight a lawsuit or may be, to start a new business) their
first and easy victims were the Hindus. They would ask the well off
Hindus in our village and store owners in neighboring market to pay a
portion of the required money. I think, some Muslim store owners were
also asked to do the same, but there were at least some verbal protest.
But this, although a serious one, was not the real problem in our
village. The worst thing was with young girls and housewives. Here I
think I should explain the context a little bit. The communication is
very bad in our area and even now during the rainy season the main means
of communication to the Upazilla Sadar is through small, manually driven
boats. If something happens in our village, it will take at least
several hours for Police to reach there. The area is a sanctuary for
the miscreants of so called 'Sarbahara Party' who walk with open
firearms in broad daylight at times (not always, of course).

Whenever this group felt interest in a young girl or housewife
of the Hindu community, they would ask the family to send her to the
primary school building at night, which was their playground. These
type of things happened mostly with the poorest families. At first the
family would try to pay some money, send the girl to a relatives house
in another place or do something else to save her. I think this is the
first time when that family considered seriously about leaving
Bangladesh. The first to leave the country were those with teenage
girls. Now whenever a member of a joint family left for India, it was a
good ground for someone to claim his property through the Enemy Property
Act. There were many people out to do that. Eventually, the whole
family left. What happened to those who did not leave ? I personally
talked to a Hindu girl. She went to that schoolhouse several times. She
said, 'You would probably never know the plight of a girl sleeping with
three drunk men the same night'. That girl was later married and so far
as I know is still living in the Madaripur town. Probably her marriage
was the biggest payoff she received for concealing her distress. In
1982 I thnink, I can't remember exactly, while I was visiting my village
home, a Hindu housewife (she was very beautiful and recently married to
a guy in our village ) came to stay at night with my grandmother in our
house in the hope of protection. Later she and her husband left for
India. That notorious man and his group did not harrass my relative and
his family living in that village because we( me and my family ) were
their 'educated and rich' relatives living in town and if they had done
something probably they won't be able to go unharmed. But why didn't we
try to save our neighbors ? I am not a brave person in the first place.
Still at many times I felt shocked when I heard about these things and
talked to senior neighbors and relatives about if there was anything we
could have done. What they were afraid most of was initial
repurcussion. Abduction and later killing by 'Sarbahara' members (who
were faithful friends of that person) was a common incident. We didn't
have enough money or friends to fight with them. I was a college
student in 1982 and I myself thought how far we can go under the current
social and political condition and who will give security to my
relatives staying in that village.

This is what happend at last. The poorest group who used to
live on fishing left for India. I have not heard much of them. Some
died from starvation in India. Some ended up collecting coal from rail
lines and live on the money selling that coal. Some richer families are
living in Madaripur town. Our relative felt insecure when all his
neighbors were Muslims ( these are not good Muslims, they used EPA or
some other bad trick to buy the Hindu land at a very low price ). So he
sold his land and moved to the other side of the river where there is a
small Hindu community.

Finally I would make one or two comments. The stories Aneeta
Chakravarty is posting are true I believe but I am not sure about the
statistics. Personally I feel that the success of the mission to
achieve a secured and undiscriminated Hindu community in Bangladesh lies
in making our Muslim friends more concerend about what is being done to
us, not in bringing hatred.

THE B E N G A L I M O T H E R L A N D

by Pabitra Kumar Ghosh
========================================

The National Puja Association of Bangladesh ('Puja
Udjapan Parishad') protested against the extreme level
of torture and persecution faced by the Hindu minority
in that country. The persecution reached another
climax in 1993. The organization took the decision
that there would be no Durga Pratima or deity in any
of the Durga Puja Mandaps in Bangladesh. There would
be puja but only 'Ghat Puja'. There would be no Dhak
(puja drums). There would be no festive lighting.

This conclusion was not reached haphazardly. Since
1947, the Dhaka government and the ruling elite did
not hesitate to convey that the nation belongs only to
the Muslims and the Hindus are not welcome. This
attitude forced millions of Hindus to flee East Bengal
(now Bangladesh). This vicious display and continuous
propagation of this attitude have caused the Hindus to
suffer from severe inferiority complex and fear. But,
the majority of Hindu East Bengali refugees and their
descendants on this side of the Padma (i.e. in West
Bengal, Assam, etc) have not forgotten that the nation
with the Rupsha Meghna Dhaleshwari rivers (i.e. East
Bengal, now Bangladesh) is their Homeland. Even after
50 years of continuous societal and mental
persecution. Their feelings for their motherland
remain inextinguishable.

Therein lies the tragedy. The Bangladesh Government
estimates its present Hindu population as 15 million.
NGOs place the figure at above 20 million.
Comparatively, Palestine has only a few hundred
thousand residents, mostly Muslims. But there have
been major international movements in support of the
Palestinians' human rights. There has been
conferences, wars, treaties, terrorist activities,
etc. to restore their lost rights and liberties. But
not even a tear has fallen for the 20 million Hindus
in Bangladesh

It is known with certainty that Islam is a newcomer to
East Bengal. The Muslim community there is only a few
hundred years old. Hindus are there since ancient
times. In Bengal Hinduism has been respected as the
Eternal Religion since time immemorial.

The rulers of West Bengal are very well aware of this
harsh cruel reality, but they don't let anyone know
about the gory events in Bangladesh. The grievances
and persecutions of the Bangladeshi Hindu community do
not have a place in the West Bengal media.

Therefore, today the Bengali Mother is weeping all by
herself. Whenever even a minor persecution occurs in
any far-flung nation in the world, the 'brave'
intellectuals of West Bengal generate mass protests.
But if a Hindu from Dhaka or Bhola suffers severe
persecution, the 'Progressive Patrons' of Calcutta
stay silent on the subject. This heartless cruel
hypocrisy is unmatched anywhere.

Temple demolished, hundreds of Tribal houses torched: 30 people wounded.

Ramgarh, Khagrachari (Monday, 25th June 2000): For the second time in recent months, Bengali Muslims have again attacked tribal villages in Chittagong, Bangladesh. The clashes erupted after the killing of a Bengali Muslim truck driver reportedly by the tribal freedom fighters.

The situation at Ramgarh of Khagrachhari district remains tense after Monday's clashes between the Bengali Muslim settlers and the tribal people in which over 30 people were injured and at least five tribal villages were set on fire.

An uncontrolled Bengali Muslim mob went on rampage as a follow up attack setting ablaze Buddhist Temple and hundreds minority houses in four villages of Ramgarh. Report says, fearing violence hundreds of Marma tribes have taken refuge to the neighboring state of Tripura, Indian. According to some report, the situation is tense and all shops of Ramgarh remained closed for two days whilst Police and BDR personnel are patrolling the streets. Section-144 has been clamped and gathering of more than five people is banned.

In another development, Indian Border Security Forces on Tuesday sent 31 members of the Marma Community back to Bangladesh. These people crossed the border into India after Monday's clashes. BDR officials have sent the Marmas to their respective villages. Exodus of Tribal from Bangladesh has become very widespread. In recent years, thousands of tribal were forced to leave Chittagong hill tracts and have taken refuge to Indian state of Tripura. The signed Chittagong peace treaty has not yet been fully implemented and as a result ongoing conflict between Bengali Muslim settlers and Tribal are forcing Indigenous people to leave their own land.

Meanwhile, Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity, PCJSS has called hartal on Wednesday in three will districts in protest against the Ramgarh incident.

Gajipur Puja Premises Ransacked, Destroyed, 10 People Wounded

Dhaka, October 7, 2000
People from Gajipur Jama Masjid last Friday, after the Juma namaz (prayer), attacked Hindu Kali Temple's main yearly Puja premises. Attackers destroyed the Puja pandal gate, loud speaker, ornaments and idols. They also desecrated the clothes and puja prasad (offerings). The attackers came armed with axes, knives, swords and sticks. They also looted nearby shops owned by local Hindus.

The Muslim fundamentalists who carried out the attack claimed that the puja loud speaker disturbed their namaz (prayer). However, questions were raised about the collection of weapons in a short notice. Hindu leaders claimed that the attack was premeditated.

Eyewitnesses recollected that around 1:45 pm at the city's main Jama masjid, soon after the Juma prayer some Muslims shouted 'Narare Takbeer, Alha-hu-Akber' and attacked the Hindu Kali Temple 150 yards away. The Muslims claimed that during the namaz (prayer) there was sound from the Puja pandal. The attackers tore down the decorated entrance to the Puja and stormed the main compound of the Kali Temple with loud noise. Eyewitnesses claim that the attackers had knives, swords, sticks and axes.

The attackers entered the main Puja premises of the temple and desecrated the ornaments and Puja clothes. Some broke the Lakshmi, RamKrishna and Durga idols and completely disrobed them. The attackers also desecrated the prasad (offerings) brought by the Hindu devotees. Stones were pelted on all devotees. In this attack Khirbala Saha, Tulu, Subhash and 7 other priests were injured. In panic, women and children started crying and running. Some neighboring shops owned by Hindus were also looted and cash was stolen.

Just behind the Kali Temple is the Joydebpur police station. In spite of tremendous noise, police did not come to the rescue and delayed their presence by hours. After 45 minutes, around 2:30 pm, the attackers calmed down.

Some leaders of the Hindu organizations have claimed that the incident was pre-planned. The attack by Muslims with knives and axes proves that the attack was premeditated. They also informed that during the construction of the main Puja gate, some local businessmen obstructed them. This incident has created disharmony in the community. Hindu leaders have provided names of 20 attackers including Hatem, Lalu, Badshah, Mujibur, Najrul and Mohammed Ali.

In protest of this act of violence against minority Hindus, Gajipur Puja Committee requested for the cancellation all Durga Pujas in the district. Gajipur Puja Committee head Mr. Ajit Kumar Chowdhury stated 'if the idol is desecrated then the Puja can not continue.'

After the attack, Police Superintendent Farukh Ahmad Chowdhury and Gajipur Municipal Chairman A.K.M. Mozammel Haque visited the ransacked site. In a statement, Gajipur District Commissioner Mr. Samsul Haque informed that he would initiate a commission with two persons to investigate the incident.
