Muslim are the biggest minority in the Hindu India, but there is no muslim representation in the Hindu Government. All key psot in the cabinet/government are occupied by the Hindu majority. Now it is time that muslim of india demand some kind of parity/balance in the Indian Government.I sugget that the President and Defence minister should be selected among the muslim members of parliament. Moreover muslim should also have right to demand separate election in which they could elect their own representatives for the parliament. As it was the basis of Pakistan and pakistan had already given such separate election right to it's minorities. ____ |

Interesting concept. However if we look elsewhere in the world how many countries have representatives from ethnic minorites? The UK doesn't have any muslim or even black ppl on the front bench cabinet.

You are quite right that most of the non-muslim countiries haven't muslim representation, but in the case of Britain there is a muslim member of parliament such as Ch. Ghulam Sarver of Pakistani origin even muslim there are a small minority.

muslim representation in Indian Government
Well in fact, there is indeed a Muslim representative in the Indian Government(Hey it's not a 'Hindu-alone' Government! India is a secular country!!)
Check this link : http://news.indiainfo.com/2000/10/10...ddislikes.html (maybe not a good enuf link to post here..but what the heck! ;-) Ironically, he was elected on a BJP ticket(a party usually perceived as pro-Hindu) from a constituency which has over 70% muslims. http://alfa.nic.in/lok13/biodata/13BI23.htm Again, in the larger context, you have a point, since Mr.Hussain is the 'sole' representative from the minority Muslim community in the Indian Parliament, (as against 3 Christian representatives). This is certainly a case of low parity, but at the same time we should keep in mind that the present Indian Government is headed by a pro-hindutva forces, and naturally the majority of the muslims have voted for the opposition candidates. So my point is that this is more a case of variation in representation depending on the incumbent government. India has seen adequate representation of muslims in the ministry in the past, and so will we see a much better representation, come next elections and a new Government is sworn in. |

INDIA IS A GREAT NATION
Christians like myself r less than 2%. But George Fernandes in Defense minister. Hindus r 10% of population in Bangladesh. WHAT TOP POST DO THEY HOLD? THEY R JUST TORTURED. I won't even bring up Christians in Bangladesh.
India's respect for minorities awes me. AJ |

Hindus InBangladeshi Parlament?
I would like to re-iterate the comment above. Are there any Hindus represented in key positions of the Bangladeshi parlament considering they represent 10-11% of the population.
Furthermore what has happened to the Bangladeshi hindus, Why are they leaving the country? It was not long ago that they were 16% of the people as information on this site claims? |
