Eichmann
really interstin stuff.... ASB - u should post it all here...

btw - I am readin Hannah Arendt's Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil

Its really good so far - but since Hannah Arendt's essay on totalarianism is so difficult to comprehend - I anticipate something difficult in the book as well! Esp since I'm only on the first coupla pages...

Has any1 else read this book in particular, cuz we watched the actual trial in history class n the stuff was both terrifying n sickening...

yet here is my issue
what is legal vs. what is right (i guess its not only "my" issue - but it is intriguing nonetheless!)

cuz I can't find it in my heart to blame Eichmann fully... I dunno - but hey - he was carrying out orders - n being a suckup myself (teachers pet... etc) I can relate to why he went beyond the call of duty - although the inhumane aspect of the "job" is sickening <---- thats a gross way of oversimplifying the feeling!

Have u guyz ever been asked abt this:
If u were offered a job as a train time scheduler n that was the only job u were "qualified" enuff 2 do n u needed the money...
would u take the job, knowing that the train u were scheduling the times for was 1 that transported ppl to death camps?
or would u say no, knowing that some1 else would do ur job, n u wouldnt have any other source of income?

Go figure

Well, there would always be the possibility that if you say 'No' to the job, you would be considered a follower of the enemy, sympathetic to the condemned as it were......and you would probably be joining them on the train....as long as I wasn't doing anything illegal

.....I think I would do the job knowing that I am not sending them to death camps, I am sending a train along a line and getting paid for it. You could say the same of many things.....if the only thing you could do was drive a bus, would you Not drive a bus because you know that some people that get on your bus are murderers, spouse beaters, child abusers, paedophiles etc.....

Its an interesting question.
