Bangladeshi killed by Indian border troops

Indian border troiops killed a Bangladeshi on 21st February 2003 villager during an Indian campaign to push Bangali speaking people back across the tense border. Ataur Rahman, 20 was killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Northern Thakurgoan distric. The Indian side however apologized during a cross bordere meeting of troops. The Indian forces claimed Rahman had illegally trespassed into Indian territory when he was shot. BSS said the BSF tried three more times on 21st February 2003 to force people back into Bangladesh but were foiled by the Bangladesh Rifles border force and rresidents of border villages.Indian official have said BSF was on maximum alert along the porous 4,000 kilometre (2,500 miles) border.

Good for Bengalis. Why are they going to the Indian border in the first place?
