Hmm does it matter? I know many people make a big deal of being fair, esp in our Asian culture, but really it's the person behind the face and colour that matters.

That said, I adore "tanned" guys (by this I don't mean those gores who spend hrs getting a tan!) ie. brown complexion is more attractive, in my humble opinion. I am quite fair myself and some days I look pale (not a nice colour) but my BD boyfriend is ummm brown and the pair of us make a nice contrast

I'll just add another question to your inquiry. Do guys prefer fair girls to darker ones? I guess we've all seen those couples where the guy is really dark and he has a fair wife. Sometimes I think that Asian movies also portray this image. Is it really the way it is, or is it just to sell movies? Just wondering.

Well angeleye, I think that guys do prefer girls who are fair. That’s not right like you said but that’s our asian culture. Is because the children from the couple will be fairer too. If it’s a more darker guy then it doesn’t matter as much because he is a guy.

Am I fair or dark? hmmmmm, let me see: it depends on how much sleep i have had and the time of year! generally though, i am normal, or maybe just the lighter shade of average on a day when i have had my beauty sleep.

my dad was as dark as a jamaican, but my mum is pretty light skinned, so i ended up a shade between them.

does it really matter anyway? i think its the features that count the most: afterall, really fair with a mash up face doesnt make you pretty (regardless of what mum and dad might say!). and that sickly white doesnt even look good even if you have the best features in the world! if i had to choose, id say brown is best, because we are after all asian.

my younger sister is pretty dark: all the bengalis think she is not good looking for her skin tone, but she is gorgeous....she got scouted on the street by an agent from select modelling agency and was asked to do face modelling (too short to do catwalk)!.... she declined of course with us being muslim and all, but it was a good confidence boost for her, after years of being told she was ugly by our rellies for the sole reason of being dark skinned!

On the other hand, my other half is very fair skinned: he gets a lovely golden tan in the summer (i just go black!).... he doesnt look very asian and mostly gets mistaken for mediterranean/arab or something (though as we are getting older and he gets more facial hair, the asian look is starting to set in)....we are a contrast, with me being the dark one! dont think his mum will be too impressed, she's probably vying for a fair and lovely daughter in law!

Well, in my family my mom's darker than my dad. Somewhat unusual! My dad is proper "gora" oh so white that ppl mistake him for a European. Reckon us kids are a mix, but it's really during the Summer that it becomes apparent how fair we really are! My bros get a really nice tan on their arms and faces the rest is white!

Nope, neither Bengali nor Indian. My parents are from Pakistan.
