Assalamualaikum to all
Please refer to thread of title "Halal and Haram Food Guide'. Ethylene Oxide (EtO) is a gas which is primarily used as an intermediate in the manufacture of other chemicals, all of which are NON-EDIBLE. EtO is also a suspect carcinogen, and high exposures might lead to respiratory distress and lung injuries. As a Chemistry student I, unfortunately, cannot draw any relation as to how EtO can be haram. It is a just gas for God's sake, how can it be Haram?? I cannot think of any gas which is haram. Moreover, it is not supposed to be used in any kind of food. Please anyone, explain to me and others who might be interested. Thank you and may Allah bless all of us. |

You are right! Nobody knows the answer to my question. Which is why I feel that all of us cannot take everything at face value, including the halal and haram list. Which brings me to the point: Is being a Muslim that difficult? Are we to inquire on all the foodstuffs that we consume (not counting other products like hygiene products, etc) Any consumer will know that in a product, there are many ingredients, half of which are weird sounding chemicals. Are we to inquire on every chemical there is? That would be a full-time job. It's really weird.
