Izzat, reputation, why does it matter so much in Asian culture???? Is the stronger person the one who behaves how they wish and lives life to the full or the one who conforms to the mould their parents have created for them. Theres too much emphasise on what other people will say or think about you??? Asain parents, like my own are very concerned with projecting the right image, its like a constant obsession. Am I alone in this?????

I dunno how t comment on this, but i can understand where they r coming from.

They care what the image of their family is about , cos they care about social status, but also how people look upon their children. Bangali people often judge people by lookin at their children, as it is parents duty to bring up their chilren islamicly,with good morals.

This kinda thing..earns them respect and in some cases denotes how they are talked to, and looked upon. It matters to them what their friends think of them.

Just like many of us here care about our appreance, if u r having a bad hair day, u'd make an effort to sort it out wont u? you aint gona walk out of ur house with messed up hair lookin silly arent u? cos to most ppl it matters what ppl think when they look at them!

To parents its the same kinda thing.....it matters what ppl think.

Some parents may have political aspirations, in which case it matters a lot about how people see ur family.

Yeah i agree with you, that asian culture is too concerened with what others might think. Sometimes they don't want you to do specific things (even if it is islamic) just because of what people might say. If your doing nothing aganist islam, i can't see the problem but they oviously do, because they don't want you to do it, 'because what are people going to say'.

I understand ur point, sum parents are too concerned about ‘wot pple are gona say’.
My advice to u is DON’T GIVE PPLE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BICKER ABOUT YA IN THE 1ST PLACE?
