Chittagong is indeed a beautiful place. It has vibrant green hills and sandy beaches. What I like most about the region is its language. To us Chittagonians, it's like another "mother-tongue". It has a rich history of influnece of many cultures. The Arabs, Turks, Portugease, Indians, British, Burmese, etc. left traces of its ruling in the language.
But surprisingly, many other Bengalis don't like the dialect. Some say its "uneducated" and such. But, why? So, to all Chittagonians and Bengalis alike, tell me about your love for Chittagong. Tell me how it's special to you. (if you are interested in a e-pal, please send me an e-mail) |

I know a few Chittagong families in M'bro and believe me they are VERY well educated. Much more educated than their Sylheti counterparts. So be proud to be from Chittagong. There is nothing wrong with the accent. It's like some ppl don't like the Geordie accent or the Jamaican accent. I think it's good to have so many accents.

My paternal aunt used to live there with her family. Phupa still does but the rest had to move to Dhaka for study purposes.

Hey all
Guess I'm biased in saying that Chittagong's one of the best cities in B'desh, being from there n'all. Sincerely, its delicate position between the vast Bay of Bengal on one side and the rolling hills on the other, adds to its eye-catching beauty. Part of the city itself is built on numerous hills whilst the rest lies on the flat banks of the Karnaphuli River. It is these sharp geographic contrasts that make the city so attractive. Also, the people are friendly and there is much less pollution than Dhaka. I visited Sylhet once many years back and liked what I saw. Apologies to any fans of Dhaka. Your city was once awesome, however, these days I'm afraid it's just too congested! Apparently the pollution levels are the highest of any city in the entire world! Well, that's all folks! |
