yes i am from bangladesh, your tone suggests that your not very interested or that you are rather intrigued about the cities in bangladesh.

i can tell you that sylhet in the best city. thats because i am from there.

ok you think that i am inflating my ego,no!

sylhet is the only place that is booming with business,im not showing the cold shoulder to the other cities there are beautiful in their own way.

everyone living in england comes to bangladesh onces in their lifetime, majority come to sylhet- because of its history and religion.

so take my word

sylhet is the best!

The roads in Dhaka are very much like those found in the west. Obviously there are rickshaws and baby taxis too.

They drive on the left hand side as in the UK.

In Sylhet however the roads are of a poorer quality. Many are damaged due to heavy vehicles and the general wear and tear by the weather.

There are transportation systems in place in Sylhet but not as we would find in the west. Dhaka is a much more advanced in this respect with regular bus services etc...

However in order to reach more remote parts of bangladesh the journey may entail travelling by boat, baby taxi and rickshaw. Due to the lack of proper roads in the most remote parts one may be required to travel on foot or by river. The roads in these areas are made up of soil which is heavily compacted on top of bricks to give a road like surface. However due to the nature of the weather systems in Bangladesh the roads degrade rapidly to leave a very bumpy surface.

I'll back to you on the IT stuff.

Thanks Yasmin

Its really very interesting to know that in some of the remote areas of Bangladesh u need travel by water.

Yasmin ,whether Dhaka and Selet r the only two cities in Bangladesh.

We have cities in India which r very much different in Culture , language, per capita income, life style, food habbits of the people, climate, literacy rate and .....

What r the similarities and dissimilarities between these two major cities of Bangladesh.

Take care
Bye
Pranab

Well being the capital Dhaka is much like most modern cities containing superstores, fast food restaurants etc..

Sylhet is in the northern region of bangladesh however is more affected than Dhaka but it isn't as severely affected by flooding as that in the southern regions like Chittagong. Having said that this can cause devastating effects to the crops throughout the country.

The accents are very different and persons in Sylhet will often speak in village language rather than proper bengali.

There is no major differences in eating food. The major part of the diet is rice and fish. The main components of local food are boiled rice and fish, or curry of mutton, beef, or chicken. Vegetables and lentils are also popular. There is no effective system of health inspection of restaurants.

Indeed chinese restaurants are very popular in sylhet at the moment. There are even pizza houses in Dhaka.

Dhaka (pop. 10 million). Other cities--Chittagong (2.8 million), Khulna (1.8 million), Rajshahi (1 million).

The income per capita I would presume to be pretty similar due to vast majority of ppl working in subsistence farming. The official figure is $354

School Attendance decreases at each stage of education-75.1% (primary school), 21.6% (secondary school). With literacy amongst males is twice the level for females.

Work force (54.6 million): Agriculture--63%; industry--12%; services--25%.

Indeed much of Sylhet is covered by electricity, however these services are unreliable from the two main suppliers.

The country has large reserves of natural gas and limited reserves of coal and oil
