The Curious Hoolock Gibbon

One of these creatures may particularly catch your eye. The Hoolock Gibbon (Bunopithecus hoolock) is a small ape that has the distinction of being the only ape on the subcontinent.

Exploring St Martin’s Island Off the Bangladesh Coast

The small coral island of St Martin’s, is located near Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, and a ferry service from Teknaf to the island, and is available daily. The island can be explored in a day, as at low tide the island measures approximately eight square kilometers and at high tide the island reduces in size, to about five square kilometers. Every year you will find Bangladesh absolutely come to life as its people flock to the streets to enjoy the merriment of the Pahela Baishakh festival. Basically this festival takes place on Bangla New Years Day and it has been a very prominent part of Bangladeshi culture for so long that no one today can pinpoint the beginnings of these festivities to a particular period in time. It is mainly a commercial affair that is enjoyed by both patrons and businessmen alike and no trip to Bangladesh would be complete without seeing something of these New Year’s celebrations.

Tea Gardens in Bangladesh

The area around Sylhet is traditional tea growing area. The picturesque Surma Valley is covered with terraces of tea gardens and lush green tropical forests. Srimangal is known as the tea capital of Bangladesh and for miles around one can see the green carpet of tea gardens on the hill slopes.
