Chitrak Gallery - Where Art and Altruism Go Hand-in-Hand
Located in the residential area of Dhanmondi in the city of Dhaka, the Gallery Chitrak not only displays works by renowned artists, but is also actively involved in a number of charitable works to assist children in need. While focusing primarily on promoting the work of local artists, Gallery Chitrak also highlights works by international artists.
To keep things fresh and exciting for visitors, Gallery Chitrak holds exhibitions under specific themes on a regular basis. Roop Labonnyae Bangladesh is an annual event that focuses on the beautiful scenery of Bangladesh and the lives of its people. Artists who regularly participate in this event, and have also had their works displayed in other countries, include Alakesh Gosh, Jamal Ahmed, Nasreen Begum, Rezaun Nabi, Sheikh Afzal, Nissar Hossain and Shishir Bhattacharjee.
An example of the charitable events hosted by Gallery Chitrak is the event which took place in June 2009 where the gallery participated in raising funds for school feeding programs by holding a group painting exhibition under the title of 'Help Stop Hunger in School'. Working in cooperation with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) and Creative Communications, Gallery Chitrak displayed works by forty-four leading Bangladeshi artists over the period of a week. The event was most successful and visitors enjoyed viewing works by Hashem Khan, Samarjit Roy Choudhury, Abdul Mannan, Hamiduzzaman Khan, Abul Barq Alvi, Shahid Kabir, Naima Haque, Mohammad Eunus, Ivy Zaman, Rezaun Nabi, Nisar Hossain and Sheikh Afzal, to name but a few. Visitors were also given the opportunity to watch some of these talented artists at work during a one-day painting workshop.
There are many places of interest to visit in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, and art-lovers would certainly want to add the Gallery Chitrak to their list of places to visit when exploring this fascinating city and becoming acquainted with the people who call it home.
